Pool & Billiard Rooms of Canton, Ohio
1889 to 2006
Researched and Compiled by
Raymond J. Dover

Ray Dover Ray Dover, owner of The Loop Cafe, has spent considerable hours doing research on the internet and library plus interviewing third parties to establish an extensive list of pool rooms that once existed in Stark County up to the recent past. Perhaps Ray's fascination with the history of Canton billiard parlors lies in the fact the building where the Loop now operates was a poolroom back in the 20s and early 30s. The following information illustrates his love for the game and dedication to the sport. Thanks Ray, for providing this to GCABA!

Ray was inducted to the Amateur Billiards Sports Hall of Fame in 2003 for meritorious reasons. Click here for write-up. It's hard to imagine a team sponsor more devoted to his players than Ray. He has followed his Vintage Poolteams to local tournaments plus regional and national events solely to provide support for his players.

Ray was born on August 1, 1950 and raised in Canton. At the age of 17, he joined the Marine Corps where he spent the next twenty years and retired as a Gunnery Sergeant in 1988. Ray has been promoting billiards through his sponsorship of teams and leagues for over twenty years with nearly 200 teams in five different leagues including the VNEA, Louisville/Canton, Clark & Son Monday, APA and BCA. He also organized and holds a "Toys-for-Tots" Tournament, using billiards as a means of support for the community. He raises thousands of dollars in toys and cash donations each year to benefit the "Toys-for-Tots"Foundation. The tournament for "Toys-for-Tots" and use of the logo is done so with the approval of the local detachment of the Marine Corps League and the Marine Corps Reserves.
